Hunting 2008

The hunting season looks like it's shaping up to be a good one in our household.... ! It's been a long time coming for me. It's been close to five years since I've put venison on the table. Well the dry spell was broken with a fairly large fawn I took on our property this past week.

And oh those tenderloins! What a taste from a young fawn. They melted in your mouth. My compliments to the chef - my son Jason! Not to mention the backstraps he cooked up from his doe.

And a couple of very nice does were bagged by Jason and his hunting party.

Jason's buddy Ryan also bagged a nice buck up around Grand Rapids.

HEATHER'S FIRST DEER (EVER)!!

And I just heard that just a sundown today (Nov. 18th), my daughter Heather got her very first , a good size . As you can see it is a B I G doe. Good going Heather! She said she had just looked up and in front of her about 50 yards out were three does. She locked in on the largest one, and squeezed a shot off. One shot - one doe!

MUZZLE LOADER SEASON!

Now it's muzzle loader season. We went to Deb and Lawerence's hobby farm down near Cannon Falls and were not disappointed! First day out (Sunday December 1st) - just at sunset with only about 10 minutes of shooting time left, I hear a shot up near the ridge. Jason took another BIG doe with a brand new muzzle loader he just purchased for this season. He bought the lowest cost gun he could find ($127) and took four shots to sight it in the week before season opener.

So he really took the Doe with his very first shot afield with the gun and the fifth shot ever put through the rifle. Not bad.

I've still got three more bonus tags plus my buck tag. All the areas we are hunting are intensive harvest areas, so we can take up to five animals each this year. We're trying... still got the week of the 7th up until 14th to get out into the field. I'll keep you posted.
