Summer Time Shooting Opportunities

Summer time brings a slow down to the shooting sports here in Minnesota as everyone is out on the lake. There are far less people using the Internet, and far less people at the range in the summer. Still there are some great opportunities for those who want to shoot as it is usually easier to get a shooting lane or two at you favorite range.

  1. You can take a private, professional shooting lesson. These are fairly inexpensive for the advice and shooting time you receive (typically under a $100). This is one way you can improve your shooting skills.
  2. Take a friend to the range. As I said the ranges are a lot less full this time of year. Especially during the week. This is an excellent time to introduce a non-shooter to the sport.
  3. Join a summer pistol league. You'll find bullseye leagues, and defensive shooting leagues such as IPSC and IDPA during the summer. Most cost only $10 to $20 to enter and they meet once a week or bu monthly throughout the summer.
  4. Get your carry permit. Many instructors such as us offer mid-week classes so you keep your weekends free. We even offer an online course for your Minnesota permit.

There's no reason not to shoot this summer. Keep your skill set up and stay safe and have a good summer.

Remember the Four Rules for gun safety:

  1. Muzzle control: Always keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction
  2. KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER until you are ready to shoot
  3. Always keep your firearm unloaded and secured until you are ready to use it
  4. Always know your target's foreground and background!
