Republicans made major gains across the nation last night.... Fox news this morning is predicting a net gain of 65 seats in the House of Representatives for the GOP. That gives republicans a solid majority and we say goodbye to Nancy Pelosi as the Speaker of the House. Peolsi gave her statement this morning, but there was no congratulating the Republicans. Instead she focused on how, as she put it, Democrats tried to "help" the "middle class". Interesting since most of the so called middle class people I know are fed up with her and her colleagues policies.

In the US Senate, we are only 2 seats (49-46) from taking the majority there as well. With a three seat advantage, the Democrats appear to be hanging onto power in the Senate. Harry Reid unfortunately was reelected and Christine O'Donnell lost in Delaware. If those fortunes had been reversed, we would have won the Senate. I put the blame for the O'Donnell loss squarely on the shoulders of the GOP who offered very little help to O'Donnell. O'Donnell if you recall was the tea party favorite who won the primary against the GOP groomed candidate.

And California voters said NO to legalizing pot while reelecting Barbara Boxer to another term in Washington.

A real bright note: Republican Mark Kirk won Obama's former Senate seat in Illinois in what Fox News is calling the "nation's ugliest" Senate race.

Here in Minnesota, Emmer and Dayton are separated by less than 0.5% of the vote. This will trigger an automatic recount. Who said their vote did not matter?

Chip Cravaak beat long time House Representative Jim Oberstar in the 8th District. And Michele Bachmann handily beat DFL challenger Tarryl Clark in the country's most expensive House race in the sixth.

In Dakota County, Dave Bellows was elected Sheriff, Clint Hoopaw was elected to the Apple Valley City Council, and voters said NO to a proposed $150 Million dollar levy from ISD 196.

All in all - a very good Tuesday. Now if Emmer can close that 0.5% we're all set!
