An Obama voter in class...
07 05 09 - 00:34 I usually start out our firearm training classes with an overview of the current legislative landscape. Capsulating & giving a brief overview on the laws in our MN state legislature and those floating around Washington.... Well this past Tuesday night, I gave my usual opening and put the slide up with the anti-gun legislation that Obama has supported in the past and made my usual statement that "If any of you voted for this guy, what the hell were you thinking? He's the most anti-gun President we've ever elected."At this point a student of mine was visibly agitated and said "I voted for that man because we had an asshole in Washington!" I should have reminded him that Bush was not running against Obama - it was McCain. But that point is usually lost on Bush haters.
So instead I mentioned that he could have voted for other candidates. Bob Barr, a Libertarian. But not this man Obama!
I should have asked the Obama voting student if he was speaking of the "asshole"'s record when he referred to President Bush as an asshole. Did he have facts? I suspect not. The fact of the matter is that as a country we were doing very well up until the Democrats took control of Congress. Pelozi tanked the economy and stalled on defense. Murtha said the surge in Iraq would not work (he was wrong BTW) and Barney Franks and Senator Chris Dodd were ensuring the failure of banks by forcing them to make risky loans to people who could not afford a house.
Here are some facts for you Bush haters:
Up until 2007,
· We were at 4.4% unemployment in March 2007.
· The stock market closed at an all time high of 13000 in April 2007.
· The BLS reported that in March 2007, inflation stood at 2.8% over the same period last year.
· Since August 2003 (and through April 2007), more than 7.8 million jobs had been created, with nearly 2 million jobs created over the last 12 months of that period. Our economy added jobs for 43 straight months as of April 2007, and the unemployment rate remained low at 4.4 percent.
· An incredible 95.6% of all Americans who wanted to work WERE working!
· The Economy as of April 2007 had experienced over five years of uninterrupted growth, averaging 3.0 percent a year since 2001.
· Since the first quarter of 2001 and through April of 2007, productivity growth averaged 2.8 percent. This is well above average productivity growth in the 1990s, 1980s, and 1970s.
· In 2006, U.S. exports (12.7 Percent) grew faster than imports (10.5 Percent) for the first time since 1997.
So tell me again how bad it was under George Walker Bush. It was very good and it only changed after the Pelozi Democrats took office in the last two years of his Presidency.
