ILLINOIS: The Cook County Board is Trying to Register and Ban Your Guns!

A new ordinance titled the "Safe/Streets/Weapons Registration Ordinance" was introduced by Cook County Board member William Beavers on December 4th 2007. This ordinance would impose "Chicago Style" gun bans and registration on ALL COOK COUNTY RESIDENTS.

Some of the bans and restrictions in this ordinance would include:

  1. Yearly registration fees, photos, fingerprints and paperwork for ALL firearms-handguns, shotguns and rifles.
  2. NO home-rule protection - it would apply to ALL residents, regardless of local laws.
  3. OUTRIGHT BANS on ALL handguns without a loaded chamber indicator. This would include a majority of handguns in circulation including ALL 1911s, 1st Generation Glocks, CZs. etc.
  4. EVERY violation would cost the gun owner a minimum of $1000 and up to 6 months in county jail.
  5. You must possess a registration BEFORE actually completing a gun purchase, which would make purchases at gun shows and non-local FFL dealers virtually impossible.
  6. All laser sights would be illegal, regardless of when they were purchased.
  7. Confiscation and impoundment of vehicles that contain "non-registered" weapons.
